Compress image to 100 KB
How the image is made smaller
The image is saved again as a JPEG at a lower quality setting. The tool tries several settings and keeps the highest quality that fits within the size you chose. Where lowering the quality is not enough, it also reduces the width and height in pixels, keeping the same proportions. The result is always at or below the size chosen, so it can be a few kilobytes under.
What the tool cannot do
The result is always a JPEG, including when the original is a PNG or WebP, and any transparent areas become white. A small size limits how much detail survives, so a detailed photograph reduced to 20 KB will be softer and smaller in pixels than the original. The tool does not set exact pixel dimensions. If the form you are completing asks for a specific width and height, check the dimensions shown under the result.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Your browser opens and compresses the image on your own device, and the tool does not send it to us or to anyone else. Like the rest of this site, the page loads advertising and analytics scripts.
Why is the result slightly under the size I chose?
The file size changes in steps as the quality setting changes, so an exact figure is rarely possible. The tool keeps the closest result that does not go over the limit.
Which image formats can I use?
JPG, PNG and WebP. An iPhone normally converts a HEIC photo to JPG when you choose it from the photo library, so those photos can usually be used as well.
