Islamic date today

The date follows the Umm al-Qura calendar, which is the official Hijri calendar of Saudi Arabia. The start of each month is fixed in advance by astronomical calculation, which is why the calendar can give dates for future years.

Many countries, including Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Morocco, begin each month when the new moon is sighted locally, or follow their own calculation. The date there can be one day earlier or later than the Umm al-Qura date. The start of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha is confirmed by the religious authority in each country and can differ from a calculated calendar.

In Islamic practice the day begins at sunset, so the evening belongs to the following date. This page changes the date at midnight on your device, in line with the civil Umm al-Qura calendar.

Dates are converted from a table of the first day of every Umm al-Qura month from 1318 AH to 1500 AH, which covers 1900 to 2077. The calculation runs in your browser and uses the date set on your device.
