This desk covers the money questions of life between the UK and Nigeria: what the transfer apps really pay out, what the Home Office really charges, and how to handle Nigerian admin from a UK postcode. Every figure on this desk carries the date we checked it, and our method is always shown. We compare published costs; we do not sell financial advice, and when a provider we have no commercial relationship with is the best value, we say so, because that is the entire point.
The corridor, right now
Checked 23 to 24 July 2026: most major apps charge no transfer fee to Nigeria and price through the exchange rate instead, several currently pay out above the official mid-market rate, and the gap between the best and worst payout on £200 was roughly 3%, about ₦10,000. The full dated table lives in our transfer-cost pillar below.
What this desk covers
- Transfer costs: the monthly re-checked provider table (Wise, LemFi, Remitly, WorldRemit, TapTap Send, Sendwave, MoneyGram, Western Union, Paysend, NALA, MonieWorld).
- UK immigration fees: ILR, citizenship, the IHS surcharge, and the proposed earned-settlement rules, in plain numbers.
- Nigerian admin from abroad: NIN and BVN, step by step, official routes versus what agents charge.
- Seasonal: December flights and shipping windows, school-fees transfer timing.
Information, not advice. Every provider comparison shows its method and dates. All transfer providers covered are FCA-authorised or agents of FCA-authorised firms; none carry FSCS protection.
